Our services strip away communication barriers — fostering connection, community and independence. Additionally, our team of Sign Language Interpreters adheres to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct and must maintain state certification and licensure annually.

onsite interpreting

We work on-site in a variety of interpreting settings. These include but are not limited to Educational: K-12 and post-secondary, medical, mental health, vocational, business, legal, performance and platform, media and press releases, and special events such as conferences, commencement ceremonies, church services, funerals, weddings and summer camps.

remote interpreting

Beyond provides remote interpreting services through a variety of platforms.  Remote interpreting puts the power back into the community's hands.  We are able to provide local interpreters to ensure the best match. This also allows the community and businesses to request interpreters who they know and trust.

Community outreach

Our community outreach and mentorship programs are second to none. We’re dedicated to empowering those in our community live better lives. Under the guidance of certified and experienced interpreter mentors, students have a safe space to develop and apply the skills they learn in school, becoming better communicators in the process.

“As the Mayor of Kansas City, I wanted to ensure equal access to important health and safety information for those who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing during my public announcements for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Michelle DeMartino, the owner of Beyond Interpreting, has been an example of dedicated service to the city.  On one of the toughest days of her life, she still wanted to deliver her service to the people of Kansas City.

She’s the sort of person who makes a real difference in this world.  When you talk about services, it comes in so many different ways, and she’s done one hell of a job at what she’s tasked to do with all of us.  I will always remember her dedication and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen something quite like it.”

— Quinton Lucas, Mayor of Kansas City

mentorship program

Our mentorship program provides current sign language interpreting students an opportunity to fulfill their practicum / internship requirements for their degree.

Under the guidance of certified and experienced interpreter mentors, students have a safe space to develop and apply the skills gained in school to professional interpreting settings. A student can participate in a mentorship program during any academic semester as long as it coincides with a required college course. A mentorship term lasts a minimum of 8 weeks up to a maximum of 16 weeks or as described by your coursework.

“THROUGH MY MENTORSHIP WITH BEYOND, I GAINED NEW CONFIDENCE IN MY OWN ABILITIES BECAUSE OF THE ENCOURAGEMENT, SUPPORT AND INVESTMENT I RECEIVED FROM THE BEYOND INTERPRETERS I WORKED BESIDE. I’LL FOREVER CHERISH THE AMAZING OPPORTUNITY YOUR PROGRAM PROVIDED. I COULD NEVER SAY IT ENOUGH, THANK YOU.”

— Kristine Chase, Community Interpreter, Spring Mentorship 2019
